Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ. It’s a new week and I’m already excited about this Friday night prayer at our church. It starts at 22H00 pm till 05H00 am at this address: 8062 Fullmoon avenue, Braamfischerville. It is going to be so powerful and mighty. We will be seeking God and pouring our hearts unto him. You’re invited! do come, we will be expecting you Friday night.
Oh I believe you’re doing good today. In the previous week we were talking about “unlearning habits of trauma and healing” and today we talking about breaking from under the same topic of “unlearning habits of trauma and healing”. Today we won't go to deep because of the exercise we need to do, it's a three step exercise In breaking habits.
Our habits tend to shape and make us the people that we are today and some of the habits are good for us and some are just destructive to us without us realizing what they do to us. Yes you’re right let’s pray first before we go further: Father Lord Jesus Christ we come to you today as we are, Lord we are not coming with pretense to you but we come with sincerity and humbleness that Lord may you once again align us with your word, creating hearts that know you and worship you, Lord we appreciate your presence today as we learn from you and we say Amen and Amen.
Breaking habits isn’t easy especially when you’ve had the habit for half of your life because that habit is a part of who you are and have learnt to live with it. Perhaps you asking yourself what is a habit and why do I need to break the habit, well habit is a regular act or practice that you do every day as forms a part of you and we break habits because they are either destroying us or no longer serving us because a habit is supposed to build you or strengthen you, so if you have habits that you are not sure of will show you how to find out which ones to break or to enhance you.
But before you break the habit, you’ll need to identify which habits you have and what’s their purpose in your life so you can be able to deal with them, this is a self-diagnosis project or we can say it’s a self-audit about yourself which will in turn be beneficial for you. Start assessing the habits your have then look at the roots of each habit you may have.
The roots of habit differ according to where you grew up- we all grew up in different environments which then influenced who we are today and changed parts ourselves as we grew. I’m mentioning growing stages because most habits occurred as we grew without us realising what’s happening, your growth played in an important to role producing the habits you have today, some habits occurred due to the traumas we grew up with and we choose to side line them by telling ourselves that what’s meant to happen will happen instead of facing it head on and confront it at that particular time so we may be able to heal.
Here’s how you can start by doing this 3 step excercises :
• Which habits do you I have as a person?
• What are the roots of these habits I have?
• Are these habits fueling or destroying me?
Those three questions will then give you the information you need to break habits, each habit has it’s own way you can deal with it according to type of habit it is and remember dealing with it from the roots will propel you not to allow the habit to come back.
When dealing with habits we must remember that we also dealing with past traumas that we often refuse to talk about and then play game of pretense to avoid confronting them.
Past trauma are the main reason some spheres of our lives remain stagnant until we decided to untie the knot so can see progress in our lives. Habits caused by traumas are such as unforgiveness, anxiety, emotionally unavailable, easy to anger, pull back, failure to love, comfort refusal, all these habits are due to certain events that occurred once or multiple times and one that almost affects us all is failure to trust -it affects us so much to an extent that we fail to trust God yet we proclaim to have healed from distrust.
So as you're working on the points given do by all means to recognize and break habits that destroy you then enhance the one that build and never forget Proverbs 3:5 “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight understanding”.
Try by all means to trust God in all your plans by letting go of everything that have caused you to lose trust in God.
For today this is were we pause and Remember I stated that we won't go deep today so we can have time to recognize and break the habits using the points mentioned above in point form .
Lord Jesus Christ we thank you for aligning us as you're breaking what's not needed in our hearts so we may serve and love you with all our hearts ,Lord we pray that may you lead us in our daily lives,Lord May it that we shall come back and testify of your greatness
And we Amen and Amen .
